From barns to beaches, to classic resorts, more couples are saying “I Do” to destination weddings for several reasons.
Some see it as an expression of their creative individuality to choose a unique location. Others find it sometimes more affordable, with the average cost of a traditional Chicago wedding averaging $40,000. Many of the more than 400 couples who are married each year in Door County come here from all over the Midwest seeking a beautiful, natural destination at which to celebrate their marriage.
If you check Wisconsin venues listed in The Knot, one of the nation’s top wedding magazines, Door County is just one of many Wisconsin wedding destinations that are wooing them, including Kohler, Lake Geneva, Madison, Elkhart Lake, Bayfield and more. If you are one of the many Door County businesses or individuals that benefit from the wedding industry, Door County Style Wedding Magazine and the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center would like to invite you to attend the first annual Door County Wedding Vendor Strategic Planning & Marketing Conference at the Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor on Tuesday, January 12 from 9 am ‘til noon.
”When couples do plan to come here, we’d like to insure that they know Door County has an enormous amount of talented and experienced wedding vendors, capable of handling their every need or desire,” says event coordinator Alisa Landman. “We’d also like to promote Door County as a 4-seasons wedding destination.”
If you are a Door County wedding venue owner or manager, an event planner, baker, caterer, florist, wedding rentals or transportation provider, officiant, photographer, salon or spa owner, videographer, DJ or an entertainer, you are encouraged to attend this strategic planning event. Bring along your own marketing materials to display and share with other attendees. This event is intended to foster grassroots collaboration and teamwork.
Attendance at the Door County Wedding Vendor Conference on January 12 is free. Speakers will include Amanda Thuss, Marketing and Promotions Director at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center who will talk about the upcoming festival events; Stephen Kastner with DesignWise Studios who will talk about networking, social media, optimizing local SEO and advertising in the era of referral marketing. There will also be a presentation on Agritourism, any agriculturally based operation or rural activity like rustic weddings, which brings visitors to a farm, ranch or a historic property. Thanks to the Landmark Resort, there will be refreshments and an opportunity to socialize as well as time for Q&A discussion.
“We have created a number of different ways to boost the visibility of Door County as a wedding destination,” says marketing consultant Stephen Kastner. “DoorCountyStyle.com, an online magazine in existence for more than a decade, has been transformed into a dedicated wedding vendor and venue guide, listing everyone and everything ‘wedding’ in northeastern Wisconsin. We have also partnered with the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center in adding ‘Another Slice of Fire & Ice’ wedding expo to the city’s popular annual winter festival.”
This 1st annual Door County Wedding Expo takes place in conjunction with “Fire & Ice” on Friday and Saturday, February 12 -13 at the Lodge at Leathem Smith in Sturgeon Bay. Door County Trolleys will provide free transportation to The Lodge and throughout the city for festival goers during the day on Saturday. The Expo will welcome guests with free admission, wedding planning workshops, live entertainment, gifts, samples, door prizes as well as representatives and displays from up to 75 local Door County wedding venues and vendors.
